“VFX allows us to enter a world that’s more exciting than the one we actually live in. To believe in the impossible, dream the future and re-invent reality.” – Uwais Adam
Because I’ll be taking some time off from posting new content as a result of school and work, I thought it’d be a good idea to start highlighting members of the HitFilm community you should be checking out. I’d like to be doing this on a regular basis, perhaps monthly if all goes well. If you’d like to see yourself featured here, let me know by contacting me with a brief description of yourself/your channel/website and how you’ve been helping out HitFilm users.
Let’s meet our first guest: Uwais Adam of the YouTube channel RED ALERT!
Hello and Welcome…to me. My name is Uwais and I love movies. It’s a fact, an undeniable truth, and an absolute certainty…and that’s why I created my channel; to share my love of film and the process of actually making it!
I host a weekly web series called Red’s FX in which I teach all sorts of effect tutorials in HitFilm 4 Express and the odd Audacity one! It is my firm belief that open source software (such as HitFilm Express and Audacity) is the ultimate way to give all, equal opportunity to thrive and succeed in the industry. My passion for VFX and my adoration of film fuel my show and I enjoy the heck out of it!
Thanks for letting us get to know you, Uwais. Before we get into some of your VFX work, tell us a bit about yourself.
I grew up with movies. To this day, the movie theater going experience will always be one of my favorite things in the world. The sound, the picture, the indulgence of it all always ends with me walking out with a HUGE smile on my face. It’s something to be treasured and sadly, not a lot of people value it as much anymore. Outside of my movie addiction, I love film making (duh), working out and spending time with my family.
What would you say your favorite movies/TV shows are?
Some of my favorite films are; Jaws, Jurassic Park, Star Wars, The Dark Knight, The Shawshank Redemption, Scream and so on. I adore TV Shows. They might not always be as high quality as films, but if the story is right, they’ll get me fired up!
A few of my best ones are: 24, Person of Interest, The Flash, Gotham, Empire and by far the BEST of them all: SUITS. (Suits is what fuels my life BTW.)
Did your love of film inspire you to start creating VFX?
The logical next step for me in movie making was visual effects. Gunfire, explosions, flying, etc. Anything that could aid me in telling a story. Also, to make myself look like a bad ass action star…obviously.
When scouting for methods to actually create VFX, I found HitFilm. I was astounded at what HitFilm (at that time it was 3 Express) could offer. The best part by far was that it was free. Finding solid, intuitive tutorials for HitFilm isn’t easy, so I decided to make the quality entertainment that I’d always hope to find. And well, here we are.
You’ve been making HitFilm tutorials for about two months now, and they’ve been well received by the community. What do you have planned for the future?
For now, I’d love to tackle as many fan/subscriber requests as possible and build up my library of HitFilm Express tutorials. My main goal is for someone to visit my channel and almost always find what they’re looking for.
VFX allows us to enter a world that’s more exciting than the one we actually live in. To believe in the impossible, dream the future and re-invent reality. And honestly, what’s more fun than that?
Thanks to Uwais for his time. Be sure to check out his channel, RED ALERT!, for more excellent HitFilm Express tutorials.
